Blind Flange

A blind flange is a solid flange as shown below. The purpose of these is to block off a section of a pipe or a nozzle on a vessel that is not used. A nozzle is typically a pipe coming out of a vessel and is usually flanged so it can be connected to valves or piping.

Description

A blind flange is a type of flange used to cap off the end of a pipe or to close the end of a valve or vessel. It is essentially a flat disk with bolt holes around the perimeter and no center hole. Blind flanges are commonly used in piping systems for maintenance or repair purposes, or when it is necessary to isolate a section of piping or equipment.

Blind flanges are available in a range of materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and various alloys, and can be found in a range of sizes and thicknesses to suit different applications. They are typically attached to the pipe or equipment using bolts, and a gasket is placed between the flange and the pipe or equipment to create a tight seal.

Blind flanges can be manufactured with different face types, including raised face, flat face, and ring joint face, depending on the specific requirements of the system. The face type determines the type of gasket that is used to create the seal between the flange and the pipe or equipment.

Blind flanges are commonly used in applications where it is necessary to isolate a section of piping or equipment for maintenance or repair, or where a permanent closure of a piping system is required. They are also used in the petrochemical and oil and gas industries, as well as in other industrial applications where high pressure and temperature conditions are present.
